That was one of the most frustrating, irritating things to me in JWdom over my several decades in. Many elders were clueless. They often taught things that contradicted JW doctrine. Many times, they had no idea what was going on. I could relate many stories. I will mention one now.
In the late 80's, I and my wife met for service one morning at the Kingdom Hall. The group was small - just the two of us and maybe eight to ten others. I can still picture it and even remember where we were sitting (back two rows on the rear left of the KH).
The PO, who was also a regular pioneer, stood in an aisle and conducted the meeting. He was retired; probably about 60. His meeting consisted of considering the daily text. The comments on the text for that day mentioned Paul's having been involved in Judaism. The PO said "Paul must have been humble because I imagine if he wanted to he could have [at this point he made karate-like motions with his hands] chopped opposers up."
My wife and I, to this day, still mention that from time to time. The only thing we can figure is that the PO was thinking of Judo and he thought that Judaism was like some kind or Eastern martial art. And that wasn't just an isolated incident with him.
That one was a doozy. Most of the problems were less sensational and had to do with chronic lack of comprehension, lack of ability to teach, ignorance, and, often, just plain old lack of computing power.
I was ROTFLing with that, and XJWs I know also found it riotously funny.
A few days ago, during my daily oblations, I was led by the Magic Spirit to this scripture -
"I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers." — Galatians 1:14
...and once again found myself on the floor, overflowing with joy.

Jehovah's Witnesses: A Clear Decline
by Hadriel init is rather clear that the internet is to put it mildly, wrecking the world of the watchtower bible & tract society.
if not for foreign language i doubt there would be much growth at all.. digital trends and analytics are very real.
i live this analytics world i assure you to some degree you can take it to the bank.

done4good asked two questions:
Q1.: Why is it every time this is discussed, people take either extreme?
A1.: Because that is how conversations work. If everyone thought the same, no discussion board would be necessary; see the invisible discussion board at JW.ORG as an example.
Q2.: Neither extreme is correct. [?]
A2.: According to Schrödinger's Witnesses, this is not only correct, but necessary. -

Other methods are just fooling around.

Well, I'm sure your experience was at least a little bit more intense than your synopsis makes it seem, but you get bonus points for not embellishing the story in any way.
I'm sorry you went through this and look forward to additional posts by you.

Years and years ago, before I had any idea that I would be exiting the WTB&TS, there was this fellow I knew in my congregation and this VERY attractive girl who thought it would be a grand idea to bump uglies in secret one time. Both kids had elder parents but in different congregations. She got a warning, he was disfellowshipped.
For HIM, this was the best of all possible outcomes. His parents, enraged over the unfair treatment of their Dear Boy, left the WTB&TS along with their son.

Q.: What Happens To You When You Die?
A.: You leave your family wondering why you didn't have the foresight to prepare a will.

Have you ever heard of the Shakers; the Amish; the Mennonites? Just a few examples of extinct religions that aren't extinct.

The Curious Case Of Brother B
by pale.emperor inthere was a case in my old congregation that is shrouded in mystery that i'd like to share and get your views.
this is something i've wanted to talk about for years but it's strongly shot down if you even try to talk about it in my old congregation.. it involves a certain brother b.. in my old congregation this brother was well liked.
as a kid, we all knew him for being fascinated with dinosaurs.

If you really are looking for ANSWERS, what makes you think you will find them HERE?
If the mysterious Brother B is still alive, look him up and seek a meeting with him. Buy him dinner. Ask him to tell you his story in his own words for the sake of posterity.
There are SO MANY people I now wish I had talked with 30 years ago who are dead now, and my OUIJA board gets their messages all messed up; they can't even remember what their favorite color was.
